About Steven S. Zumdahl
Steven S. Zumdahl received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Wheaton College (Illinois) in 1964 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois (Urbana) in 1968.
In 35 years of teaching he has been a faculty member at the University of Colorado (Boulder), Parkland College (Illinois),
and the University of Illinois (Urbana) where he is currently Professor and Associate Head of Chemistry and Director of the General Chemistry Program. He has received numerous awards including the National Catalyst Award for excellence in chemical education, the University of Illinois Teaching Award, the UIUC Liberal Arts and Sciences Award for Excellence in Teaching, the UIUC Liberal Arts and Sciences Advising Award and the School of Chemical Sciences Teaching Award (five times).
Dr. Z, as he is fondly referred to by students, friends and colleagues, has achieved icon status on the UIUC campus. He is respected and admired for the excellent rapport with his students. Dr. Z and wife Susan also enjoy a passion for travel. However, among his greatest joys is collecting and restoring classic automobiles, including a 1963 Corvette which has been his daily transportation for more than 20 years.
