Suslick and Students Study the "Wint-O-Green" Effect

Dr. Kenneth Suslick and his graduate students have begun studying what is known as the "Wint-O-Green" Lifesaver effect. Each time a sugar crystal is broken within these seemingly innocuous Lifesaver rings, a tiny lightning bolt is produced, resulting in what is becoming known as the "Wint-O-Green" effect. Dr. Suslick's research and findings on the miniature "lightning bolts" produced by Wint-O-Green Lifesavers was recently featured on the hit science radio show "Earth & Sky".
